Do you have experience in the creative sector and want to help support arts development in Invercargill?

We are looking for two passionate, arts-focused people to be Community Representatives on our Invercargill Creative Communities Committee.

Experience in an artform or an active interest in the arts preferred.

Your main role will be assessing creative project applications and helping to decide how to allocate funds from Creative NZ to viable arts projects for the local community. The Invercargill Creative Communities Fund issues close to $50,000 worth of grants to successful applicants each year, across 4 funding rounds. See this website for more Invercargill Creative Communities Page. The committee currently meet on a Thursday afternoon at quarterly allocation meetings in August, November, February and May. This is a volunteer role of a 3-year term.

This is a great opportunity to connect with a range of artists in the areas of Music, Film, Theatre, Dance, Ngā Toi Māori (whakairo/carving, peitatanga/painting and raranga /weaving), Pacific Arts, Photography, Painting, Printmaking, Fibre Arts, Sculpture, Literature, Craft and more! You will learn about exciting upcoming projects and keep your finger on the pulse in the local arts community.

Ideal skills that you would bring to the committee would be:

  • Experience in a governance-type role
  • Involvement in the arts sector or as a practicing artist
  • Understanding of a formal meeting process including Agendas and Minutes
  • Strong sense of confidentiality - as sensitive information is often shared
  • Confident reading ability - as there are often large agendas requiring a few hours of reading time

If successful, you will join Councillor Trish Boyle who also sits on the committee, along with mana whenua representative Evelyn Cook and community representatives, Sophie Ineson, Astrid Lewis and Karl Herman.

To apply, please fill in the application form via the link below. Applications will be assessed by a Creative Communities Appointments Subcommittee, made up of current committee members and we will have an outcome for you by the end of June.

For more information please email Gemma at creative@icc.govt.nz or phone 03 211 1798

Applications for Community Nominations close on Sunday 31 May 2026.
