CLOSED - the first stage of our engagement on the District Plan is now closed.

Share your ideas about how we can improve available housing options for residents of our district via changes to our District Plan

Council knows that finding suitable housing is becoming more challenging for our community. We also know that a large proportion of Invercargill’s housing stock dates from the 1900s and increasingly lags behind today’s new-build standards and that renovation of these types of buildings can be difficult and expensive with limited results.

We are planning some updates to the District Plan to:

- Allow an increased density of housing

- Promote better-designed housing to provide better social and environmental outcomes.

Together we believe these changes would help increase the number and quality of housing available in the city.

Let us know below what you think is important for us to consider in our District Plan. You can also let us know where you think we should encourage more residential development by dropping a pin on our Mapping Tool
