Will this strategy be focused only on children?

Play is one of the most important things for children’s development so children are the priority audience. However, children aren’t the only ones who benefit from Play, so this is not only about them. We want to hear from youth, caregivers, and anyone who likes to play.

Will the strategy include what the Council does with playgrounds?

Yes, this strategy will include the direction for the playgrounds in Invercargill and Bluff, and, once adopted, will replace the 2013 Playground Strategy.

How does this relate to the urban play programme that was mentioned in the 2024/2034 Long-term Plan Consultation?

The Play Strategy will set the overall vision and outcomes for Play in Invercargill and Bluff and will align with the urban play project

Will the strategy include sports fields/facilities?

At this stage, we are not intending for this strategy to cover formal court and field sports or their facilities. The focus is primarily on informal, spontaneous, and self-directed Play.

How will this strategy factor in accessible play?

Any topic relating to Play is something we want to hear about. We know that our community supports an environment that is safe and accessible to everyone.  So, if you have feedback and ideas relating to the accessible nature of Play spaces, equipment, and opportunities, please share them with us.

    What is a strategy?

A strategy is a document that outlines a desired vision for a city-wide topic and describes the necessary outcomes and journey to reach that vision. Council strategies have a long-term focus and support the council vision of He Ngākau Aroha – Our City with Heart.

How do I share my and/or my children’s thoughts?

You can support your child to complete a submission form, or some artwork and put it in one of our submission boxes at either the Te Hīnaki – Civic Administration Building, Invercargill Public Library or the Bluff Service Centre. We have also partnered with He Waka Tuia PLAY 3.0 and welcome children writing/drawing their responses to these questions on the large stickers featured on the gallery floor during the engagement period

We have also recently heard a lot of Play related feedback from children during our 2024/2034 LTP Consultation, as well as during our Sandy Point and Donovan Park master planning consultations in 2023
