What is a cap?
The current numbers of machines and board venues are capped. This means that if a machine or venue is taken out of operation, it cannot be replaced with another. Currently, there are 226 electronic Gambling Machines (Pokies), and 11 Board (TAB) Venues
What is a sinking lid?
Over time the number of venues and machines gradually decreases and venues close or machines are retired. No more venues or machines can be established to replace the current ones.
The current rules will remain allowing for the transfer and merging of venues only within the CBD area.
How often are these policies reviewed?
Every three years. The next review will take place in 2026.
